Vocalist/Guitarist Eric Malmberg, formerly of the Minneapolis, MN based band Secretly Drowning, and Guitarist Eric Marsh, formerly of the Minneapolis, MN based band 2 Ton Crutch, have experienced the pressure cooker of being in bands that were lured to New York and Los Angeles by countless major labels looking to sign the “next big thing.” But for several unoriginal reasons beyond their control, both returned to Minneapolis without a record deal, but even better, with an education of what it takes to close one. Soon they would learn what it was like to start over as well, as members of both Secretly Drowning and 2 Ton Crutch folded their cards after the stress of being a breath away from their dreams became too much to bare. But the same could not be said for the songwriting heart of both bands. Malmberg and Marsh quickly joined forces, made a pact to build the right band, and do it the right way. What followed was a year of passionate songwriting that yielded the kind of musical excitement that Malmberg and Marsh had always dreamt of having. The next step was to create the full band that would bring this new music full circle. In stepped bassist Chad Haugejorden. Haugejorden is everything a bass player should be. On point with his timing and crisp with delivery. In a word…solid. The last piece of the puzzle, and what is often the hardest for most bands, was to find an experienced drummer that would provide the very important rhythmic foundation in which Marsh and Malmberg would build upon. This drummer would be key in completing the trademark sound of Dayfeed. Enter the literal Blessing that Malmberg and Marsh were looking for…which was drummer Andy Blessing. Not only did Blessing bring everything musical to the table, but his industry knowledge was an equal asset to the band. Blessing had gone even a step further in the music industry than Malmberg and Marsh. “Rear View Mirror” was an Iowa band that had the good fortune of recording with famed producer Steve Lilywhite (U2, The Rolling Stones). After completing the Lilywhite sessions, Rear View Mirror signed with Palm Pictures records, released their record nationally, and toured the country…only to have their label go under due to a lack of financial backing. Another common story within today’s music business. But Blessing, just like Marsh and Malmberg, decided that he was not ready to hang it up, but rather step it up. Dayfeed was now formed. Packed with the perfect blend of talent and experience, the band immediately hit the studio to turn out “Beauty in the Breakdown,” which regionally, has already garnered critical acclaim, being called one of the best releases of the year. Shortly after, Dayfeed was pickup up by the Los Angeles, CA based management team True Player Entertainment, who had managed Malmberg’s Secretly Drowning to a near deal. This time around, “near” will not be close enough for anyone involved. Dayfeed is an exceptional band, with incredibly emotional and powerful music. Time will tell the future of Malmberg and crew…but if the past is any indication of the potential future, then success is always a breath away.| |
