In 1998 they released their first EP. Containing only four songs, it did sell 5,000 copies, a somewhat surprisingly high number. They were signed to Punkcore Records shortly after and released two more albums. The singer Stephanie left the band in 1999, being replaced by JJ. Consequently, The Devotchkas changed their name to The 99’s two years after.
