Both live in Lausanne, Swizerland and play music together for about three years. Before Digitaline, Laurent played drums in a grindcore band and Gregory guitar in two post-rock bands : Parazit and Machnick (both bands still exist). They could have started something like a postcore or a grindrock project but they prefered techno… minimal techno. They don’t know why… but they fell in love with drummachines ! First, it was only a live project : an improvized mix of loops, close to the first minimal sounds. (dub and clics). Gigs after gigs, opening the eyes of their ears, they tried to search in many musical directions, most of time deeper and trickier than ever. « This project is a game for us where the only rule is to make you dance… each one of you, no exception… The one who makes somebody move strangely or react in a special way to a sound, a sample or a rhythm wins the point ! We both win… but we also lose our mind playing that game. » And after two years having fun, they finally decided to make songs. They keep the best of what happens in the liveacts and transfer it to an other context, as if they locked it up in a cage (maybe an aquarium…). So that they can work on it longer, make experiments, create a monster… The result of this process is two long and trippy tracks, released on Cadenza. |
