Formed at the end of 2005, DJ6 was a Brazilian short-lived band who was a part of the famous indie label Midsummer Madness. The band was Julia Vaz (vocals), Felipe Fortes (guitars and backing vocals), Bruno Correia (bass) and Fred Mendes (drums). They also had the help of Gordinho (guitarist from Brazilian indie heroes Pelvs), Sal (guitarist and vocalist for Phone Trio) and Bruno Fiuza. At first, DJ6 main goal was to approach trip hop. Their first EP (released independently 2007, re-released by Midsummer Madness in 2008), self titled, showcases that, but also their slight inclination towards indie pop and shoegaze. Eventually, as they played live, they wrote new songs, and those were largely different from their initial work. They recorded an album, but it was shelved because the band, due to internal tensions, decided to call its quits June 2009. They used list bands such as Portishead, Massive Attack, Radiohead and Broken Social Scene as huge influences. |
