Little is known about these four creatures. Some say they are extra terrestrials imported from the planet of dope shit, others claim they were man made in a secret KGB lab during the Cold War. There’s even a minority of firm believers trying to convince the world that these “things” are the biggest fraud in history, saying Elvis Presley, Marvin Gaye, John Lennon nor James Brown actually ever died, but instead secretly formed a supergroup currently known as the FLOWLIFE BUMZ. Whatever the case may be, there are some facts one can be sure of. Their exact whereabouts remain a mystery, but they have been seen quite a few times in Belgium, Ghent to be more specific. About half a million girls officially stated these creatures go by the names of VersATell, MixMonsterMenno, XXL and Tradd. Their first public appearence must have been around 1997, when earthlings still refered to them as members of the the Hooded Crew. They made a little noise under this name, releasing a couple of hardcore underground miXXXtapes, but mainly they kept on building their skillz by cutting up records 24/7. It was also around this time that they were seen in music stores around the country buying samplers and such.|A few years passed, skillz developed exponentially and the name was changed into Full Proof Connection. By then they were not only rocking parties in Ghent and beyond, they also started producing for different national as well as international artists. Word on the street was these were some talented …uhmm…beings. That’s why in 2003 the legendary DJ Grazzhoppa asked MixMonsterMenno and XXL to join him (and three others) to form the world’s first dj bigband : the DJ Grazzhoppa’s DJ BigBand. In the meanwhile VersATell kept a low profile, secretly working on literally hundreds of beats, while Tradd was in the studio all day working as a sound engineer. In 2004 the name changed once again and was flipped into FLOWLIFE BUMZ. Some say because the commercial succes was just getting way out of hand, others believe this was done to mislead the government whom by now had at least 12 fully equiped police squads surveilling the BUMZ 24/7.|Alongside this new name came a new masterplan : releasing records of their own. The first 12inch “Global Relationz” was released in 2005 on DJ Grazzhoppa’s CHEEBAWAX label. MixMonsterMenno, Tradd as well as DJ Grazzhoppa himself took care of the production work, while long time friend and partner in crime Omni (Los Angeles, USA) blessed the tracks with some off the hook vocals. |In 2006, they hooked up with underground overlord CountBassD (Nashville, USA) and started working on the highly anticipated “Dinner@Table N°9” ep, which was released on Brick9000 / CHEEBAWAX and distributed worldwide by Grooveattack later that same year. This ep, which includes productions by all four of the BUMZ, was extremely well received and got airplay all over the globe. Even U.K.’s finest Gilles Peterson must have liked the record, since he played it several times, without having a copy sent to him. Later that year, a limited remix album, entitled “BumMixes” was released (cd only) for the local market. After having sold over 14 million units, the BUMZ started living it up like true kings. They showed up at parties in Saint Tropez rockin’ minks, were seen in Miami buying Lambo’s and Airbus even built them an exclusive A380. Soon rumours started spreading these guys had retired from the music scene. They immediatly responded and killed all the blablabla by releasing “The Smackdown”, the first single of the “Bumz Galore” album they were secretly working on. This album, currently a gigantic hit in the Andromeda Galaxy, is scheduled to drop on Earth by the end of 2009 and will feature a bunch of national (DJ Grazzhoppa, Paolo, Dyno, Acrid Cast, Rub) as well as international superstars (Trunks, Kice Of Course, CountBassD, Solé). So be prepared for the unexpected and keep your baby momma on a leash, cuz hormones will start running wild whenever “Bumz Galore” hits the streets. |
