Born just outside of Philadelphia and growing-up all over the country, Fredrick Ford learned early-on how to make new friends: by entertaining them. Fredrick always loved to sing but sometimes had to stop due to neighbors banging. That’s when he started to develop quieter hobbies, like a regular Saturday afternoon magic show for the neighborhood kids. An all-around entertainer was already beginning to emerge.
Beginning his professional career early, Fredrick was chosen as a scholarship dancer at Clark Dance Center in New York City. One of his dance teachers had to lie about Fredrick’s age so he’d be old enough to qualify. A life in the spotlight was definitely ahead of him, but an education came first.
His choice of an Ivy League college became a real point of contention between Fredrick and his parents. After seeing him perform, however, they supported him pursuing a BFA in Theatre with a concentration in business and marketing. Fredrick graduated Cum Laude, excited to start his professional career.
The challenge ahead was moving to New York City and beginning his life as an entertainer. Faced with huge college loans, Fredrick landed a job on Wall Street and toiled away in corporate America, living paycheck to paycheck. “Paying-off my student loans and not knowing how I would ever find time to pursue my singing career became my two big concerns, and for a few years I struggled.”| |Soon after, OMC Records in New York City discovered Fredrick and signed him to a recording contract. But how would another unknown singer hit it big?
“I was one of a hundred thousand ‘aspiring unknown artists’ and wondered how I could set myself apart from the pack.” After being pursued by the legendary porn director Chi Chi LaRue, Fredrick chose to ‘step outside the box’ and made a name for himself in the adult film industry. His star rose almost overnight. He was nominated for 2 GAYVN Awards and 2 Grabby Awards, including “Best Newcomer of the Year.” International press then followed, and he was nominated as Men Magazine’s “Man of the Year.”
On the heels of his success, OMC Records released Fredrick’s debut EP “Dirty Little Secret” which has now sold in 14 countries around the world and was on NARAS’ Final Nominating Ballot—-up for a GRAMMY nomination as “Best Electronic/Dance Album.”
Fredrick’s first single, a remake of George Michael’s “Too Funky,” spent 8 weeks on the Billboard Dance Club Play Chart, was up for a GRAMMY nomination as “Best Dance Recording” and was in rotation on more than 75 radio stations across the U.S., including Sirius Satellite and XM. Last summer, “Too Funky” became a huge club hit throughout Europe. The music video continues to be played in more than 14,000 bars and clubs across America as well as in Europe, Australia, Asia and on BPM-TV in Canada.
Fredrick’s sophomore release “Turn My World Around (I Found the One)” hit # 1 for two weeks on Sirius Satellite Radio’s OUTQ “Hot 20”, spending 15 consecutive weeks on the chart. It also spent 9 weeks on the Billboard Dance Chart and was up for 3 GRAMMY Nominations for “Song of the Year,” “Record of the Year” and “Best Dance Recording.” More than 65 terrestrial radio stations had it in mix show rotation, and it was played in every Abercrombie & Fitch, Victoria’s Secret, Adidas and Dance Concepts store in North America. The music video has been playing all across the world in bars, clubs, retail stores, on BPM-TV in Canada and in every Gold’s Gym & 24 Hour Fitness in North America. The song was featured in the film “A Four Letter Word.”
“Out of the Dark” marks Fredrick Ford’s third-consecutive Billboard hit, spending 10 weeks climbing the chart. For 3 months, it has been in the top-50 songs played on mix show radio across the U.S. and is playing in all Armani stores worldwide—as well as in every Victoria’s Secret, Abercrombie & Fitch and Adidas store in North America. The music video is spinning nationally on LOGO in the U.S. and hit the Top 20 on Canada’s most popular music video channel.
Fredrick performed in the national TV special “Turn it Up America,” singing alongside Barbara Tucker and Pepper Mashay, which aired in 100 markets across the U.S. and on LOGO. Fredrick is touring to promote his latest single; he will be headlining Pittsburgh Pride (opening for Kimbereley Locke) and recently opened for Deborah Cox and Ultra Nate.
