|24 year-old Tony Skerritt (aka Fumin) hails from the Borough of Newham in East London. Fumin started creating a buzz on pirate radio stations such as, Deja Vu and Flava FM in his early teens. His legendary appearances and freestyles on radio and live shows with the likes of Wiley, Dizzee Rascal and Tinchy Stryder led to his notoriety in the UK underground scene as a fierce spitter and the respect of his peers. Dizzee named him as the MC to watch in Rewind magazine and subsequently Mike Skinner (The Streets) name checked Fumin as one of his favourite MC; an accolade that led him to contributed production and feature on Fumin’s long awaited debut album.
Although best known as a founding member of Fire Camp and for his appearance on Lethal B “Forward Riddim” (Pow) which entered the UK National Charts Top 10, winning him a “Mobo Award” for ‘Best Single of the year & also Sidewinder ‘best newcomer’ award nominee. For Fumin, early success has been a gift & a curse which have seen him face many trials and tribulations in the music industry.
His last mixtape ‘’The Official Paid in Full” Vol.1 Featuring Wiley, Jammer, Ice-kid received heavy rotation on the club scene and airplay on grime shows including DJ Logan Sama (Kiss 100); Tim Westwood (Radio 1); Ras Kwame (1Xtra) and DJ Limelight (BBC Asian Network); all of this increasing his burgeoning underground profile and exposure in UK Grime.
Now Fumin is back, focused and ready to dive into the mainstream of UK music industry. His debut album “Year 7” sees the versatile MC experimenting with rhythms and beats and as expected many tracks that blaze with a lot of hot and controversial lyrics from “your uncle Fumin”. The album features productions from a slew of boardsman such as Dialtone (Juelz Santana, Joe Buden) on the definite single “Close” and catch grime track “Now Now” feat Ghetts; Mike Skinner (The Streets) on the haunting single “Cross that Line”, Flukes of Crazy Cousinz on the future club anthem “Afterparty” and Heatwave Productions who also produced the classic “Run way” from his Paid In Full mix tape on the feel good track “No One”.
It’s been a scenic route to his debut album, one full of real live dramas and false dawns. But as some of the most famous MC’s have testified, it is not he who laughs first who laughs longest but he who laughs last. Fumin has just started chuckling.
