Caught in a strange dialogue between harsh noise, future-leaning electronic music, indie rock signifiers and mainstream pop,GOBBLE GOBBLE’s sounds are unorthodox to say the least. Stuttering, blown-out and chopped guitar peals, erratic, bubbling synth arpeggios, crunked-out, sparkling 808 hats and bursts of meticulously processed digital noise abound: all these boisterous bits held in place by the steady pulse of grooves that would, without their eruptive context, sound at home on a European minimal techno 12″. Part of Canada’s shadowy futurepop collective Hovercraft, the band gestated in a small scene of passionate musicians with forward-thinking attitudes about pop music. Indeed,GOBBLE GOBBLE’s other members also have their own projects (Purity Ring, Kuhrye-oo) which of late have garnered well-deserved buzz.
