There are at least 3 bands by the name Granada:
1. .granadA is a brazilian HC/alternative/pop band composed of Yuri Nishida (voice), Zé Nery (bass/voice), Léo Pinotti (guitars), Victor Balleste (drums) and Kauê Mazon (guitars). The members have made history yet in several bands (including Nx Zero, Glória, Box 10, Rev Grunje, Átona and Maorii Lótus), after formed .granadA in 2005, oficially. ‘Terceiro Capítulo (655321)’, the first album came out in november’s 2006 by Sienna Music. ‘the question isn’t only about to play, but show to public that there’s much more left to see than you already know. .grandA is an union between love and revolt, doubts and answers, right and wrong.’
2. Granada is a swedish indie/alternative pop band.
The group’s history started when “the stockholm three” Jonas Ohlson (keyboards), Petter Lorentzon (drums) and Christoffer Gunrup (lead guitarist), met Magnus Vikström (singer and guitarist) from Luleå (far north in Sweden) and decided that they together should form a band. The name of the group was taken from Christoffer’s worn-out TV-set. But it was when Anna Järvinen, during a visit to Granada´s rehersalplace, started to sing along with Magnus that they discovered that their voices were so well suited for each other. They realised that they had to start singing together. Anna joined the band and then things really started to make sense. Colin Greig, a Scottish bassist and former member of the band Long Fin Killie, completed the line up.
Granada made music that is soft, often very low-key and truly heartfelt. The Swedish publication Bibel early described it as conveying: “an exquisite, unworldly atmosphere”. Stefan Malmqvist, a journalist at the Swedish daily paper Svenska Dagbladet, said that it felt: “so intimate that it sometimes sounds as if they are your best friends whispering a secret to you.”
Their much appreciated debut EP “Everyone Wants To” was released in November 1999 by the newly started independent label Look Left Recordings. It was a huge success on National radio and on all college stations. One year later they had toured the country, signed to the Swedish majorlabel Sprinkler / Universal Music, recorded their debut album and had another minor hit with the track “Amazing it seems”. The second single “Sister” managed get on a weekly rotation on the MTV Alternative Nation show, and to stay there for months. In November 2000 they released their debut album “Granada” which received great reviews in papers around the country. The album was later also released in France, Norway and Denmark, and even in those countries it received fantastic reviews. Following this they released “Takes A Lot Of Walking” in 2002, and “Let That Weight Slide Off Your Shoulders” in 2004.
3. Pioneering early-70’s Spanish progressive band, GRANADA (from Madrid…) was the musical project of multi-instrumentalist Carlos Carcamo (flute, violin, acoustic - and electric piano, mellotron, clavicordio, 12-string guitar, percussion and vocals!) and the other musicians Michael Vortreflich (electric guitar), Antonio Garcia Oteyza (bass) and Juan Bona (drums and vocals). GRANADA had a unique style. They remind of the Mexicans ICONOCLASTA, and also other Spanish bands like TRIANA or COTO EN PEL. The British influences come from YES, JETHRO TULL and other Italian bands very present in their sound. The emphasis of GRANADA relies on the keyboards (with profusion of moog and mellotron) and guitar instrumental passages, but with more keys that guitar. They sound like a mix of fusion and symphonic influences.
GRANADA released three albums: “Hablo De Una Tierra” (’75), “Espana Ano” ’75 (’76) and “Valle De Pas” (’78). The debut-album “Hablo De Una Tierra” is their most original album. The six compositions sound very varied (from rock and bluesy to latin and symphonic) with strong Spanish vocals, powerful guitar (some biting solos), pleasant keyboards (many beautiful Mellotron waves) and IAN ANDERSON inspired fluteplay. The title track includes a splendid and very unique duet from the Mellotron and flamenco guitar of guest-musician Manolo Sanlucar, goose bumps! Two of their best albums “Espana Ano 75” and “Valle Del Pas” were reissued on 1 CD. They consist of instrumental, melodic progressive rock with occasionally surprising moments, which include the use of orchestration and bagpipes. They are both two excellent examples of Spanish prog and highly recommended. Definitely check them out!!!|
