Los Angeles born emcee/producer/drummer /faith healer Damon grew up in Hawaii, two kilometres from Mount Waialiali, coincidentally the wettest spot on the planet, and Berkley, home of the people’s power hippie movement of the 70’s, a few blocks from Fantasy Records! The Rubberband’s dance career led him to Stockholm in 1986. Subsequently it is a career that has made him a recognized figure in the street dance community the world over. He has toured with Jam on the Groove/Rocksteady, Sweden’s most renowned street dance troupe, BouncE and is a winner of the famed Just Deboute dance contest in 2004. Meanwhile, nine years later, on the other side of middle earth. Self taught musician and spell casting druid Aaron was born in Lusaka, Zambia, the land that lends its name from the mighty Zambezi River, to a church deacon mother and a speech writer for the president father! Upon being teleported to England to be colonialised, he was possessed … by verse. Unable to exorcise this spirit it led him to Stockholm, Sweden in 1990 where he was signed to WEA at a mere age17, much to his once head of intelligence fathers chagrin! He earned himself a formidable reputation as a prolific free style emcee (ask him to rhyme about anything go on!), and fronted, guested and wrote with a variety of ensembles. His notoriety led him to introduce a rap curriculum in a Swedish high school, where he has been and is still “edutaining.” Hearin’ Aid was born circa1995 when the planets converged in the third house, which is that of communication, in response to other group’s weak chakras. What once started as a séance of irreverent freestylin’ and unorthodox beat making, summoning the “One”, (some people call it tha’ Funk) turned into the def, defying recording, song writing and producing duo that you have today. Their influences comprise a gumbo of New Orleans second line rhythms, Audio Two productions, James Browns intestines, essence of Blastmaster KRS-One and various gospel seasonings. It is made manifest in their remix of Swedish songstress Linn’s “Available”, their own “Let Eet Ought EP” and in their explosive live performances. These performances have been witnessed by mortals at such events as the Mtv X-treme Games, Berns Fusion Festival, Nefertiti Club, Lollipop/Fanclub and Hultsfred Festivals. Hearin’ Aids black art of music production has been boldly exposed by the Jugglin’ etiquette who signed the conjure man and the beat cannibal in 2004, when the planets converged in the seventh house, err…which is that of marriage! The most respected voice on all things black music in Sweden, radio journalist Mats Nileskär rightly dubbed Hearin’ Aid “the leaders of left field hip-hop.” Put on your Hearin’ Aid, its cheaper than getting yer ears flushed! |
