This Calgary native’s musical roots lay within Jazz and Classical. Since the age of 5 she has traveled across North America performing with choirs and on her own. Jenna’s passion for making music has developed into what is now a sound she can call her own.
Big Break
At the age of 18, Jenna opened for Shawn Desman (Sony/BMG) and the Canadian Pop group,” Sky” in her hometown at MacEwen Hall which, at the time, created quite the buzz. Her performance caught the attention of Vancouver based musician singer/songwriter and Juno Award winning artist Chin Injeti (Base is Base, Snow) Suspending her studies in Broadcasting/Journalism at Mount Royal College, Jena moved to Vancouver for the opportunity to collaborate with Chin and pursue music fulltime. “…music is what I had to do… [Chin] helped me develop my craft.”-Jenna (BEATROUTE magazine).
Practice Makes Perfect
Jenna began taking voice lessons from Judith Rabinovitch (Sarah McLauclan) and taking guitar lessons from local professionals while simultaneously improving her skills at networking, marketing, promotion and self-management. relentless practice soon paid off for this well-rounded artist.
Air Time
Jenna and Chin found some success as a writing team with the song “Days Hours Seconds” which was placed on regular rotation on Vancouver’s 104.9 Clear FM. The Track meshed Jena’s Jazz vocal roots and Chin’s Pop/Electronica fusion. Following this, the duo entered into a production arrangement with Hipposonic Studios (Sarah McLauclan, K-OS, Bif Naked) to develop her as an artist and produce her first album. Studio owner/musician/producer Robert Darch helped Jenna/Chin record and produce four songs in February 2005 stylized differently from previous tracks. The title track “Lonely Girl” became the showcase song on her sites myspace.com/jennaandrews.
Gaining Growth
Gaining worldwide praise with her previous tracks, Canadian Blues legend Colin Linden (Tom Wilson, Colin James) produced three additional tracks in Nashville, Tennessee. Jenna now found herself rubbing shoulders with musical heavyweights such as Tom Hambridge (Norah Jones) and Richard Bell (The Band, Janis Joplin). She has since then moved to Toronto, Ontario where she has written with the likes of Jon Levine (The Jonlevineband), Robbie Patterson (Snow, McMaster and James), Dean Mctaggart (Amanda Marshall, the Arrows), James Bryan (Prozac), Colin Monroe (Ray Robinson), Jacksoul (BMG), Blair Packham (the Jitters), Josh Finlayson (the Skydiggers), Eddie Schwartz (Carly Simon), Brent Bodrug (bgroupmusic.com), Fergus Hambleton (the Satellites), Simon Law (Soul 2 Soul, Chante Moore), D10( Drake, Saukrates), Cam Dougall (God made me Funky), Pete Lesperence (Fairground), Ron Sexsmith, Creighten Doane(Harem Scarem), Terence Gowan (Andy Kim) and Greg Kavanagh (Love Inc, Maren Ord).
