Jumprava is a Latvian synth-pop / rock band from Rīga, Latvia that is extremely popular within the local audience. Their songs are mostly written in Latvian, which is one of the main reasons why they have remained as only a local band. Still, their music has always been rather different from the other popular bands in Latvia, and some have called them “the Latvian Depeche Mode”. Their songs are very melodic and can be characterized as synth-pop and rock. The band has always experimented a lot and tried to use different sources of sounds in their songs - be that coming from folk music, everyday life, or completely synthetic. Even though their main popularity was in the 80s and 90s (80-itie, 90-itie - Latvian), they still remain as favorites for both older and younger listeners. Even their later albums and best song collections have been a success. Currently the group consists of Aigars Grāvers, Aigars Krēsla, Aigars Grauba, and Ainārs Ašmanis, but there are also other artists that have been part of the group in the past - Ingus Ulmanis (1984 -1987), Aigars Votišķis (1984 -1987), Māris Jurjāns (1984 -1986), Hermanis Kaminskis (1984 -1986), Ainars Vilde (1984), and Antonija Breidaka (1984). |
