Juniper Moon formed in 1997 in Ponferrada, Spain, and split up in 2005. Their line-up was comprised of Sandra (guitar and vocals), Dado (guitar), Jaime (bass and vocals), Iván (drums) and Eva (keyboards and vocals). They released three singles and an album on the highly-regarded Elefant label.| |The cover of their only album, 2002’s El Resto De Mi Vida, indicates their style: a sixties pin-up girl examines a Juniper Moon record excitedly, saying “Wow! This is fresh and sweet punk pop!” The frenetic synthesis of pop harmonies and punk guitars is both as fresh and sweet as advertised, most notably on singles ¿Volverás?, Sólo Una Sonrisa, and, especially, album title track El Resto De Mi Vida, one of the most perfect two-and-a-half minutes in the history of power-pop.
Despite recognition from John Peel, Steve Lamacq, and the Posies’ Ken Stringfellow, and the inclusion of El Resto De Mi Vida on Rough Trade Shops’ 2004 indiepop compilation, Juniper Moon never made an impression on the anglophone musical consciouness. They disbanded in 2005, though the 2006 re-release of El Resto De Mi Vida raised a new ripple of interest in the band. Their music is featured in the “nonsense-pop” film, “Svensson’s Syndrome, released March 2007.
