Just over two years ago Baton Rouge, Louisiana native Kristin Diable dropped her life in the swamps to test out fresher waters in New York City. After selling most of her possessions to put down deposit on a 150 square foot rooming house apartment in Manhattan’s East Village, she began making the rounds in the bustling Lower East Side music scene. After a chance introduction, George Stein (best known for guiding the career of musician Jeff Buckley) signed on to represent and later manage the developing artist. As she steadily began building a buzz, working her way up to more prestigious downtown haunts such as The Living Room, The Knitting Factory, and Mercury Lounge, she produced and self release the full length “Shelter” record at the end of 2005. The record provides a glimpse into the diversity and depth of this 22 year old songwriter, who cites influences as broad as Neil Young to Nina Simone, and Ray Charles to Lucinda Williams.
