Kulcha Knox - born on April 15, 1965, in Manchester, Jamaica - is the son of the late Jamaican broadcaster Jeff “Free I” Dixon who was murdered alongside Peter Tosh and to whom this album is a tribute. “Free I” Dixon recorded a song entitled “The Rock” for Coxsone Dodd’s Studio One label back in the late sixties and it’s possible to detect a similarity in the voice between father and son. On his “Praise Jah Again” album Kulcha Knox - a culture-oriented deejay whose voice and deliverance is reminiscent of Prezident Brown - walks in the footprints of artists like U Roy, Trinity and Brigadier Jerry as he sticks to the tradition of the classical roots deejay music, however with an approach that is contemporary and all of his own. Knox delivers his uplifting conscious lyrics across a set of dubby riddims produced by the Kariang team, a label responsible for some interesting roots tunes over the past year or so. A decent rasta-inspired set throughout with City Of No Pity, Dread Natty (a rendition of Bob Marley’s “Natty Dread”), the combination with the Mystic Revealers More Problems and the “Duppy Conqueror/Mr. Brown” skank of Hard Road To Travel being particular stand-outs.
