Marike Jager, born 1979 in Leusden, the Netherlands, is a typical singer songwriter. She sings and plays guitar and piano. She learned to play guitar while backpacking through Australia, New Zealand, Asia and South Africa. There she wrote her first song Lizzy. When she got back in the Netherlands she started to perform live, quickly winning the ‘Studenten Songfestival’ in Maastricht (Song Festival for Students in Maastricht). Soon after she also won the Sky Radio Talentenjacht (Sky Radio Talent Hunt), the demo poll by StuBru and the prestigious ‘Grote Prijs van Nederland’ 2003 (Grand Prix of the Netherlands) in the category singer/songwriter.
After winning ‘De Grote Prijs’, she met Henk Jan Heuvelink who plays Wurlitzer, harmonium, bass and piano. Together they played at festivals, theaters and on the radio on a regular basis.
In the summer of 2005 the duo recorded their first album The Beauty Around. It was released on May 15th 2006, on their own label Morning Coffee Records and is distributed by V2Records.
On October, 31st 2008 Marike released her second album: Celia Trigger. It contains 13 songs, all written by Marike Jager. She plays with a bigger band: Henk Jan Heuvelink on keyboard and bass, Nicky Hustinx on drums and Mitch Mulders on guitars. This album features more musicians and broadens it from being a mere singer-songwriter album. Most of the tracks are recorded at Studio 150 in Amsterdam. |
