Matt Palmer began writing songs seven years ago at age 14. Already a fan of Pop/R&B artists like Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey, he honed his craft day-in and day-out behind his household piano. His heartfelt songs and impassioned vocals caught the attention of then-manager Rudy Brammer, who put him in the studio with producer K-Fam (Destiny’s Child), songwriter/producer Adonis (BeyoncĂ©), and songwriter Kenny Hickson (Carl Thomas). Through various sessions with these R&B heavyweights, Matt learned the key to a powerful song is in the production just as much as the songwriting. He promptly invested in a Triton Keyboard and an MPC2000 drum machine and spent 2 years learning about music production hands-on and creating his CD Getaway. Matt released the 14-track disc independently, and the tracks got him into NYU’s competitive Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music. In August 2008, Matt won SongwriterUniverse.com’s Song of the Month contest. As a result, Matt’s song “I Wish” was reviewed by seasoned music publisher Dale Kawashima, who has represented the catalogs of Prince and Michael Jackson. Kawashima was so impressed with Matt’s music that he brought it to the Tokyo-based music publishing company HoriPro Music where he acts as Executive Director. Matt is currently signed to a six-month development deal with HoriPro in which they will pitch Matt’s music to major record labels for placement as a songwriter and an artist.
