A dark star in a sea of monotonously predictable heavy bands, Medeia has stuck to one clear objective since its founding in 2002: creating a fresh, brutal sound rich in content and uncompromising in nature. Solely positive reviews for their self-produced and now sold-out debut album “Quantum Holocaust: World Domination” and the gutwrenching follow-up label release “Cult” stand as a loud testament to the success of that mission, hailing the band as the “new king of Finnish death metal”[1] and stating Medeia “leaves no doubt in anyone’s mind which band is rising to be one of the flagships of Finnish metal”[2].
Following the success of their label debut in September 2008, Medeia began working on the final installment of their thematically twisted trilogy, dubbing it “Abandon All”. Though lyrically picking up the tale of nuclear devastation from where “Cult” left off, musically Medeia has again progressed by leaps and bounds, embracing whole new elements in their impassioned brand of aural battery and ensuring it sounds nothing short of exceptional. Cellos blend seamlessly with crushing signature riffs, ethereal choirs float over guttural screams, brooding piano melodies and disquieting samples go head-to-head while the pace is set by a furious drum assault making for an irresistably intriguing listen designed to beat you senseless yet leave you gasping for more.
Signed to the prominent Fullsteam Records and working in close co-operation with Fullsteam Agency and German Avocado Booking, Medeia has made a point of bringing their trademark jaw-dropping energy to audiences across Finland and beyond, touring relentlessly and playing shows alongside such notable acts as Ozzy Osbourne, As I Lay Dying, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Entombed, Terror and The Ocean. With the upcoming release of “Abandon All”, more shows and several new videos are in the making, 2011 is set to be a busy year for Medeia.
As Jason Ward from Finland’s largest metal magazine aptly put it when selecting “Cult” as the album of the month: “You will be hard-pressed to find a more precise cross-section of metal than this: pure hate, altruistic melancholy and unmitigated rage. Medeia has earned their right to the throne.”[3]
