Mitera Falaina Tyfli [metehrah fahlehnah tee-flee] translates into “mother whale blind”, a self-mocking band name, refering to the main songwriter’s weight, his protective mannerisms, as well as his obsession with The Great Whale that rescued Pinocchio, hosted Jonah and travelled along to Stereo Nova’s monumental song. It is The One that Brian Eno praises in his masterpiece composition “Mother Whale Eyeless”, a definitive source of the project’s name. MFT’s first official appearance on a stage ever was a solo acoustic performance on the first of two days of the 1st Burnt Festival in Athens, Greece, which took place at the Small Music Theater, Veikou 33, Koukaki. It was indeed an honour, a rare privilege to perform at such a magnificent festival, even though the rehearsal of the MFT’s playlist took place just a couple of hours before the performance. The band members of MFT are not fixed, since everybody is involved in many other important bands and projects of the Athens’ music scene (if there is such a thing… whatever!). Most of the songs are sung in greek. Some aren’t. Right now, MFT is preparing a demo e.p. entitled “plankton e.p.”, mainly for promotional use. |
