Nic is a young, fresh DJ, producer and re mixer. He started in music at 16, where he worked in the local record shop and DJd in the local bars, in his hometown of Maidstone, Kent. It was here that he earned his first proper break courtesy of the towns house institution Club Class. Aged just twenty he became main room resident for the night which he continues to be fully committed to. Ive been going to Club Class since the day it opened. As a clubber it was the club that made me want to be a DJ. My best memory is when Carl Cox played and there was a massive power cut. He managed to get the monitors working by putting aknife in the fuse box and we all danced off the monitors for about 10 minutes - until the sound system kicked in and the place went nuts! I became resident about a year after that and still love it as much as I did then. Its the best club in the world! says Nic. Through Club Class Nic gained massive respect from DJs across the spectrum. People such as Deep Dish, Pete Tong and X-Press 2 were blown away with Nics deep tech grooves, acid b-lines and dark jackin beats. Such talent earned Nic his second residency at The Gallery at Turnmills. Named Fandango, this venture has provided Nic with the platform to invite DJs he has long respected to play alongside the finest new-breed talent in clubland, this ended in Dec 2005 as Nic spread his wings with his home town club (club class) to take the helm in the Box of the Ministry of Sound on a bi monthly basis and being able to now program an entire clubs music has given Nic an excellent platform in the capital to showcase his music. In 2005 Nics portfolio of residencies extended yet further when he became quarterly resident at Space in Miami, undoubtedly one of the finest nightclubs on the planet, alongside Erick Morillo, Roger Sanchez, Steve Lawler and Sander Kleinenberg. With one Space in the bag, another came on board shortly after as Nic was announced as resident for we love Sundays at Space for the summer season in Ibiza, this was added to the two dates at Pacha for Pure oh and the Radio 1 10th birthday party from Space… This coming year (2006) Nic has residencies at the following clubs Club Class @ MOS London bi monthly / We Love Sundays @ Space Ibiza weekly 15 dates / Space Miami 6 dates / Il Muretto Venice 5 dates this reads like a whos who of some of the worlds finest clubs !!!! Nics production and remix work, under his Skylark and Buick project banners with Andy Chatterly, has proved fundamental in pushing him through as both an artist and DJ. Skylarks Thats More Like It achieved Essential New Tune Status on Pete Tongs Essential Selection show in August 2003, cementing his reputation as one to watch. This was only furthered with the follow up; a re edit of Tears for Fears Shout, widely recognised as THE tune of Ibiza 2004. Acclaim has continued as a result of Buick Projects Drop Da Beat and Chancer, and remixes for Kylie Minogue and Timo Maas. His latest projects have included mixes for Tierfschwarz, Steve Lawler, Underworld, Soul Mekanics, Ruler of the Deep, Wally Lopez and others. Add this to a critically acclaimed EP for Renaissance and Nic has had a very busy studio schedule. In October 2004 Nic was asked to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Carl Cox, Moby and Laurent Garnier, by releasing a DJ mix for the Mixmag Live series. He has followed that up by joining the legendary compilation team of Renaissance, which includes Sasha, John Digweed and Deep Dish, with a double CD which was released in September 2005. This is one of Nics greatest achievements thus far and with a thirty date world tour accompanying the release taking in Asia, the USA, Europe and the middle east !!! This compilation received huge props from all magazines, with CD1 showcasing a down tempo style that showed Nics complete understanding of music across the board, CD 2 being a more straight up club mix that you would expect to hear from him in a club environment. The CD sold fantastically well for a debut and the team at Renaissance are over the moon and looking forward to working with Nic again in 2006. At the end of October 2004 Nic and Andy Chatterly launched Saved Records, the home of Skylark and Buick Project productions, and future releases include James Talk Love That Acid, Paolo Mojo Raukus and Audio Fly Do You Hear, which features a remix from Zoo Brazil. There is such an untapped pool of talent across the world at the moment that I want to help the new kids coming through get the recognition their music rightly deserves says Nic. |
