This Man is already a legend on two legs. In the first place he formed the BMX Bandits and took the seat behind the drum kit of Teenage Fanclub. Then he founded the infamous Scottish Indie-Pop Label Shoeshine Records. Actually the whole world of Pop should be on its knees right in front of him. Now he is sneaking around the corner with his Solo project “Nice Man And The Bad Boys”. The smart guys of Firestation Records were the first to put their hands on this Scottish jewel and now give us the opportunity to admire Francis’ brilliant songwriting and his great feeling for melodies. The title of the album tells us exactly what to expect. McDonald and his Glasgow fellows show how hanging around is to be done rightly. Guitar pop, sunny West coast Singalongs and a dark sense of humour are the foundation of Nice Man And The Bad Boys. Francis is playing in his very own league while quoting his two other bands, perfecting Scottish Pop and bringing together Jonathan Richman, the Beach Boys, the Ramones and even Sonic Youth with humour and melancholy. You could call it patchwork but Francis McDonald proves in any case that he is not only the man behind the drums in Teenage Fanclub but the Godfather of Scottish Pop.
