Nudeswirl was formed in 1988 by Shane M. Green and original drummer Mike Toro in New Brunswick, NJ/ Released independent full length LP in 1989/ Signed to Megaforce records in 1992/ Released CD in 1993/ Toured with White Zombie, Danzig, Flotsam And Jetsam, Mindfunk, and ‘92 Lollapalooza side stage/ Videos for “F Sharp” and “Buffalo” appeared on MTV/ Disbanded 1995/ Guitarist Dizzy went on to play with The Mad Daddies/ Vocalist/guitarist Shane went on to play with SlapRocket and Lord Sterling/ Bassist Chris Wargo formed his band LoveGas and opened Gas Works recording studio.
Known for their dark, earthy atmospherics of guitar feedback, abusive attacks of wah wah, tribal/tuetonic rhythms, rolling melodic basslines, and wavering, lyrically obscured vocals. Combining musical styles from Rock to Metal, from Alternative to Psychedelic, all the while infusing their own signature feedback tapestry throughout.
Just check out the hollowbody Gretsch guitar feedback throughout “Disappear” or their masterpiece “feedback movement” in the breakdown of “Ringworm” or check the intro to “Dogfood” and you’ll better understand the genius of this band.
Nudeswirl never reached their full potential as they disbanded after their only major label release. Considered a cult band, almost 20 years later, many new bands on the scene such as the likes of Tool and RadioHead site Nudeswirl amongst their influences and they have been hailed by Perry Farrell, Jon Frusciante and the Edge as well. Nudeswirls’ CD has been out of print for a few years, which relegates them further into the depths of cult obscurity. The only places to find it are in the “used bin” or Ebay. An independently released vinyl album of the bands earliest songs is almost impossible to find. The last time one appeared on ebay -it sold for upwards of $50.00.
The last known performance by the band was a reunion show a couple years back at The Court Tavern in New Brunswick, NJ. A video exists of the band playing the Dynamo Open Air Festival in Holland in front of 30,000 people and an MTV Europe interview exists as well. Their two music videos are ocassionally spotted on MTV2 and re-runs of Beavis and Butthead. Interviews and pics from Rip, Kerrang, Spin, Alternative Press, Option and other feature mags will be posted soon. Feel free to submit any pics or press of the band to us.
