Philtron was founded in 1995 by Sven, Janne and Rico. Started up as a synth-pop band in Hamburg/Germany. They soon managed to become the first band to be signed on Project Pitchfork’s own new label Candyland Entertainment, where they released their first EP “NO PROMISES” in 1996. That same year, they released their first longplayer “PHILTROPOLIS” and went touring throughout Germany, mostly in smaller clubs and some summer-festivals. After having made some success within the german gothic-new wave-electro-scene, they recorded their second album on Candyland “NONE” (1997). This album marked the new way of philtronic music by leaving the 100% synth-pop-mainstream. Until they released their third album “Chronotrope” (2000) they went on tour all over Europe, playing with many bands and musicians (like Front 242, Alphaville, Camouflage, Sisters of Mercy, Psyche, Project Pitchfork, Wolfsheim, Goethes Erben etc.) which Philtron were being fans of before becoming part of “the biz”. Around 2001 Philtron temporarily split up because of differences between the band members. The main-vocalist Sven has now his solo-project “The Promise” (find him here on myspace.com) and continues his career with some philtronic songs along with freshly written new material. |
