New York-based rock band RAPOSO is destined to brand their stamp on America’s legendary rock-and-roll lineage. Supported by an international fanbase, RAPOSO is on constant demand to tour. Recognizing the everyday struggles of the millennial generation, RAPOSO’s songs address every listener as though written just for them. “Music defines who I am; it’s been the one constant in my life,” says front man Greg Raposo. “There are people in our audience who come to the show because they find sense of community through our music, and I love that we share that.”
The sense of universality in RAPOSO’s music comes in large part from Greg’s keen lyrical insights and memorable melodies. His command of a crowd is undeniable and his stage presence is often compared to Bruce Springsteen. Greg’s rich voice cuts through the screams of his audiences with authority – heart wrenching and smooth in RAPOSO’s powerful ballads; invigorating and anthemic in their arena-rock songs – Greg’s vocals are delivered with pure emotion that can only come with years of experience.
Greg’s impressive seventeen-year career spans both genres and continents. His face has been seen on the covers of every popular magazine in North America and his voice has been featured on radio stations around the world. A New York native, Greg has had the honor of performing many of America’s largest concert venues, including Nassau Coliseum and Jones Beach Theater. At sixteen years old, Greg earned a platinum record (one-million units sold) and at eighteen released a solo album at 40 on the Billboard Independent Albums chart; his charisma, performance quality, and popularity spawned a Greg Raposo: Live in Concert DVD in 2004.
“I have big goals for the outreach of my music,” Greg states, “And I have total faith in myself and my bandmates. The key to a successful rock band is longevity, and I know that we really have that potential to last.” Greg’s conviction in the talents of RAPOSO’s members is well-placed: drummer Lou Vecchio is a third-generation drummer who is endorsed by MRP Drums and cited by Modern Drummer Magazine as one of the top ten drummers on Long Island. Having played the drums since his foot could reach the pedal, Lou’s tight rhythms and passionate playing brings a distinctive groove to the RAPOSO sound. Bassist Jakey Lee was raised on a diet of classic rock and emulates John Paul Jones and Roger Waters in his solid basslines, a technique he developed partially through his time touring with punk act Brookside. Completing the top-notch lineup are Jesse Leo and Brian Corona on guitar; both familiar faces from New York punk group Unlikely Heroes, whose drums were previously helmed by Lou. The longtime musical partnership of Jesse, Brian, and Lou, as well as Greg and Jake, lends itself to unparalleled chemistry both onstage and off. Previously the lead singer of Unlikely Heroes, Brian’s high-pitched voice harmonizes flawlessly with Greg’s deeper tone. “Three years ago I stole Lou from these guys, and today we’re all in a band together,” explains Greg. “We indirectly have almost 8 years of experience playing together and our differing styles and influences really complement each other.”
RAPOSO has the dynamic combination of talent, credentials, and passion to not only be successful, but true 21st-century rockstars. The motivations of RAPOSO to bring music back into the hands and hearts of their generation are pure: Greg prefers to let the music speak for itself, stating simply, “We’re doing this for passion. This is what we love. This is how we define ourselves.”
