Republica are an alternative rock band from England, United Kingdom who were formed in 1994 by Saffron (real name Samantha Sprackling), Tim Dorney and Johnny Male. Other members have been Andy Todd, David Barbarossa, Pete Riley and John Lane. The band are described by their lead singer, Saffron, as a “techno-punk-pop-rock” group. Their most successful single is Ready To Go, which was used as the intro to Sky football matches for a large part of the 90s. Their debut album, the eponymous Republica, reached number 4 in the album charts in July 1996. Their 2nd album, Speed Ballads, was not as successful, only reaching 37 in the charts in 1998. Republica are no longer recording and haven’t produced any new work since 1998. Although they haven’t officially split up, most of the band members are now involved in different projects. |
