Sawako is a Tokyo/NYC-based sound sculptor who understands the value of dynamics and the power of silence. After beginning in video art, Sawako shifted her focus from the video camera to sound. Once through the processor named Sawako, sounds in everyday life - field recordings, instruments, voice and electronic sounds - float in space vividly with a digital yet organic texture. She has 4 solo albums from 12k, Anticipate and And/OAR, and 1 split album as sawako + daisuke miyatani from Schole. Her unique sonic world has been called “post romantic sound” by Boston’s Weekly Dig. Sawako did live audio and/or visual performances in Japan (offsite, metro, uplink, trees are so special etc.), USA (Warmup at P.S.1/MOMA, TONIC, Corcoran Gallery, UCLA Hammer Museum, Fiske Planetarium, Monkey Town, Roulette etc), Paris (batofar), Canada(Mutek Festival) and UK (Glade Festival, resonance FM, Institute of Contemporary Art in London), and has collaborated with a wide range of musicians such as Andrew Deutsch, Asuna, Yuichiro Fujimoto, Hayato Aoki, Hypo, Kenneth Kirschner, RF, HeLLeR, Marcel Türkowsky, Taku Sugimoto, Toshimaru Nakamura and Taylor Deupree. |
