1) Petra Marklund was born to a Slovenian mother with a musical past and a father who was a professor in astrophysics. She started recording music in studios at the age of 12. When she was 17, she sang in a rock band and gained a record deal. The songs were written and produced by Jonas von der Burg, Niclas von der Burg and Anoo Bhagavan. September (debut album) In 2003, at the age of 18, she had her first hit in Sweden with “La La La (Never Give It Up)”, which reached number eight in her homeland. The single was followed by “We Can Do It”, which became her second top ten hit. As a result of these two singles, her debut album was recorded and released in February 2004, along with the third single from the album, “September All Over”, which reached the number eight position as well. In Orbit (second studio album) It then stayed quiet for September until she broke the silence by releasing “Satellites”, as the first single from her second album In Orbit, which became her biggest hit to date. The song currently stands at number 139 in the Swedish Alltime Bestperforming Singles Chart.[4] Other singles that followed from the same album included “Looking for Love”, “Flowers on the Grave” “It Doesn’t Matter” and “Cry for You” (which can now be considered her biggest worldwide hit to date). In Poland September’s second album, In Orbit, was released with new remixes and a DVD with music videos from the album. The album was well received there and peaked at number ten for two weeks, being certified Gold by selling over 10,000 copies. International breakthrough In the United States, September released one of her biggest hits to date “Satellites” in late 2006 where it had achieved a moderate success, reaching the number 8 position on the Hot Dance Airplay chart. “Cry for You” was released to US radio stations on the June 5, 2006, and peaked at number one on the Hot Dance Airplay where it stayed for a total of three weeks. Also it started to be picked up on top 40 radio in cities such as Chicago, Denver and New York, in the summer of 2008 after its massive success in the UK. On September 1, 2007, September competed in the Sopot International Song Festival in Poland, representing Sweden, her rivals were music stars: Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Thierry Amiel, The Cloud Room and Monrose. She finished 3rd in Viewers Choice (Silver Place) and 2nd in Jury Choice (Amber Place). Dancing Shoes (third studio album) September released a new single entitled “Can’t Get Over” on June 20, 2007 in Sweden. The single was followed by the release of Petra’s third album in September called Dancing Shoes. The album reached 12 on the Swedish album chart, her highest peak to date. It only remained on the charts for 4 weeks while her previous two albums remained on the charts for 6 weeks. The second single released from the album is “Until I Die”. The song reached the top 10 on the Swedish iTunes store. “Until I Die” entered the Swedish Charts at number 5 on the week of November 15, falling off the charts after four more much less successful weeks. September’s first single from Dancing Shoes, “Can’t Get Over” was released on American iTunes the week of November 27, 2007. In the Netherlands, the first single from Dancing Shoes was “Cry for You”. This single peaked at number 4 in the Dutch top 40. September released “Can’t Get Over” as her second single in the Netherlands where it peaked at number 35 on the singles chart. Her third single to be released in the Netherlands is “Until I Die” which has so far only peaked at number 91. On April 14, 2008 she released her second U.K. single “Cry for You”, the single has been remixed for the release and a new video filmed. The song peaked at number five on the UK Singles Chart. September released her 11th single “Because I Love You on November 19, 2008, a week before releasing her third compilation album, September - Gold. Cry For You - The album and move to the UK Her third single for the U.K. was “Can’t Get Over”; which also had a new mix and a new video. It was released in the UK on March 9, 2009. The single was also re-released in the Netherlands. The song charted at No.14 on the UK Chart. September performed the new song “Leave It All Behind” at Dance Nation Live stating that it would be the next UK single. Although September confirmed that “Leave It All Behind” would be the next UK single, Hard2Beat has confirmed that the next UK single will be Until I Die. During Summer 2009, September took residency in the UK to promote her new album. “Until I Die” was expected to be released at then end of July 2009 but due to lack of radio support, the release was canceled. The debut album for September in the UK was given a digital only release on August 3, 2009. The album is entitled Cry For You - The Album and features new material, material from previous albums and re-worked material. Due to the non-release of a physical copy of the album, sales may be limited. The likelihood of future September releases in the UK is now uncertain, given that the singles “Leave It All Behind” and “Until I Die” were both canceled due to lack of radio support.[citation needed] Nominations After September’s huge international success with “Cry for You”, September has been nominated with Biggest Music Export from Sweden 2008[6] Side projects Petra Marklund provided the vocals for a song by German electronica project Schiller. The track is called “Breathe” and can be found Schiller’s album Sehnsucht.[7] The song charted at number one on the Macedonian Singles Top 20 2) September was an emo band from the 90s. During the entire 8 month span of September’s brief presence, the band only managed to play two real shows in their native San Jose, California. Along with the five songs that they recorded, September’s demise in May of 1995 left a heartfelt taste of bleak, complex pop that would eventually be pigeonholed into the category of “emo.” Not wanting the band to whither away into obscurity, Tree Records released four out of the five songs that would eventually make up the Erasmia Pulcella ten-inch released in 1996. The remanding track can be found on the Love is a Dog From Hell compilation which came out on England’s Simba Records. 3) September was a progressive jazz/rock band from ex-Yugoslavia. Band members were Janez Boncina (vocals, guitars), Ratko Divjak (drums), Tihomir Pop Asanovic (organ), Petar Ugrin (violin, trumpet, vocals), Charley Novak (bass, vocals), Braco Doblekar (drums, percussion) and few other musicians as well. The band released two LPs (“Zadnja avantura” in 1976 and “Domovina moja” in 1979) and several singles. |
