3. Shady Lane really started in 2004 as a solo project by singer/songwriter Todd Picht. At that time, Todd was still in high school, working on defining his sound and figuring out what kind of music he wanted to write, never wanting to confine himself to one genre of music. Not wanting to play solo forever, he tried to find some friends to join him. After a few failed attempts at settling down with a consistent backing band, Todd continued playing solo. After high school, he decided to only play shows here and there while attending college. In the summer of 2010, Todd joined up with longtime friends and musicians Scott and Jamie Fischer to help round out Shady Lane’s sound. With a common goal of writing good music, they began writing and learning new songs. They played a few shows during that summer, but had to put things on hold when Todd went back to school that fall. Before leaving for school, they recorded their first demo ep, “Bacaba Demos,” which contained six of the songs that they played over the summer. In the summer of 2011, Shady Lane plans to continue playing music and widening their area of influence by playing shows by branching out of New Jersey. After years of performing as “Jordy Lane” with a geriatric iMac and a collection of backing tracks, Jordy is now joined by a full live band to recreate the electronic elements of his self-produced album, “Here We Go, Down The Black Hole”. Shady Lane now consists of Jordy Lane on vocals and guitar, Pete Avard on drums, Sarah Jullienne on synth and Conrad Richters (Richard In Your Mind) on bass. Tension, melancholy, surprising melodies and dynamics are the key words that describe the music of Shady Lane. The band is working hard to further develop its own sound. The latest EP “Closer” is recorded in Studio Lucan and produced by Hans Elmers. “Closer” is the next step to creating a worthy full length album. “Closer” is less complicated than its predecessor (Holy ground, 2005); the compositions are further developed, the structure of the songs are clear, and the production is loud but transparent. The experimenting with keyboards resulted in making the songs even more intense. What you hear on tape should be experienced live, so the band began their search for the missing link. After some successful tryouts Thijs Kooi joined the band in December 2007. Creating that full length album is coming closer. Shady Lane is confidently heading for the future and determined to pay out their potential. They are unity that is growing, they are eager and more motivated than ever.
