Music is about a shared experience, our common existence. Sister City’s music is preoccupied with the personal and the universal. If you are the sort of person who enjoys honest music with integrity and the occasional reference to old Against Me! albums, you will probably like Sister City. Formed in Rockville, Maryland (they’ve since relocated to Worcester, MA) in 2007 by founding members Adam Linder (songwriting, vocals, guitar, bass) and Daniel Abzug (drums), Sister City released Carbon Footprint, their most recent full-length, in June 2011. The album is a cohesive 12-song exploration of identity, legacy, death, and other super serious things like wondering if your great-grandparents would hate you if they met you. With the lyrical intensity and sincerity of Say Anything and Kevin Devine and the musical sensibilities and dynamics of Dear and the Headlights and Manchester Orchestra, Carbon Footprint will fit nicely in the most diverse of music collections. The record was recorded and mixed by Linder out of both stubbornness and a DIY ethic. The band is adamant about giving the album away for free but have bills and rent (also addressed on the album—so topical!), so they’re by no means going to refuse money. Carbon Footprint is available as a pay-what-you-want download at http://sistercity.bandcamp.com. Sister City hopes to recruit a disenfranchised and out-of-place fanbase until they can turn against it and work with Dr. Luke and Max Martin to get a Top 40 hit. The album is free.
