Stevie Ray Vaughan tragically died on August 27, 1990 in a helicopter accident, having taken the seat that his brother Jimmie Vaughan or some have reported Eric Clapton would have been sitting in. He had a wide range of influences, most notably Lonnie Mack, Albert King, Freddie King, Albert Collins, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton & Jimi Hendrix. Only a handful of blues guitarists have had the same impact on the blues genre. Although his death was a tremendous loss for his family and the music community as a whole, we have his legacy in his music, and for that we cannot be more thankful. “Life without you, all the love you passed my way, the angels have waited for so long now they have their way…take your place…” The first time I saw and heard Steve Ray on TV, I fell in love with his music style and ability. SR could man-handle the guitar with skill and passion. SR left us too early, but his music and spirit live on… |
