Formed in 1999 when Jess “stole” Claire from former band Little Green Pants The first 3 songs ever written by SugarComa are ‘Bed of Dolls’, ‘Boy in Chains’ (now known as Zero Star) and ‘Heartworm’. These went on to be Coma classics. After a couple of other songs were written, the band recorded an amateur-sounding demo tape in the St Edwards school studio. The bands first proper gig took place at The Walthamstow Standard, supporting a Metallica tribute act. They went on to play this venue a total of 4 times, with the last ever time being the show that secured them their 1st single release, with Sid Abuse. Other venues graced by SugarComa up until this point included The Ruskin Arms (where Iron Maiden played their 1st gig) and The Monarch in Camden. The band then recorded with Iestyn Polson of David Gray fame; the “Blisters” EP contained the tracks Blisters, Heartworm, Milk Fed and Bed of Dolls, and received critical acclaim upon its release in August 2000.
