Being a musician all his life, Roy Julian Digre started working with digital music at an early age, making MIDI’s on his father’s computer and playing the guitar which he learned at Rana’s music school. During Junior High he made several albums with Dance eJay 2, playing them for his friends. At the graduation party for his last year at Junior High he performed a song live that was a remixed version of a demo song from an early version of FL Studio, to which his friend Björn-Christian wrote the lyrics for.
During 2004 to 2007, Roy experimented with FL Studio and made several CD’s that he showed to his friends. His most notable effort during these years was the 2005 hit “Take Me Home” which despite horrible vocals became something of a viral hit because of a music video made by Markus Thonhaugen and Julian Bech that was hilarious. Also, in 2006 he landed another hit with “Raygun”, which also got another music video made by the same team. Both videos were shown at a contest in Bodø that year.
In 2008 the first Technomancer album saw the light of day, although only 5-6 copies were printed due to lack of a proper way to release his albums. “ReStructure” was influenced greatly by Roy’s breakup with his first true love, and although he has no plans to release it officially, it is available from his website for free.
In 2009 he struggled to find a label to release his next album, “De:Harmonized”. Finally landing on Ekleipsi NetLabel, the album was released in August 2009 to great reviews. The song “Emulator” became a hit and was included on several compilations that year. Although Technomancer was glad he got it released, he realized that he needed more personal control of his releases, and started releasing music on his own label instead. The first release on his new label would be “Emulator EP”, an expansion to “De:Harmonized” featuring several remixes and b-sides, released in November 2009.
In January 2010 Technomancer released the first EP from his next album. “Stay With Me” took the melody from “Take Me Home” but added brand new lyrics and arrangement to the mix. Needless to say, “Stay With Me” became something of a hit as well, and remains Technomancer’s most popular song. The album, called “2”, was released shortly after and was later released on iTunes as well. It quickly gathered fame after being spread on the internet and the second hit “Musika Technologika” was included on several compilations and DJ mixes and was also released as its own EP in June 2010.
2011 proves to be a new beginning for Technomancer with the release of “Mindspace”, an album that while keeping in touch with his older works, updates his sound massively. The concept album about the fugitive from the government who escapes into a sort of internet called the “Mindspace” stays perfectly in tune with the cyberpunk aesthetic that has come to define the Technomancer atmosphere.
