There is more than one artist with this name:
1 The Blizzards are an Irish band from Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland formed in 2003. The band is made up of Niall Breslin (Lead vocals & guitar), Justin Ryan (Lead guitar), Dec Murphy (Drums), Anthony Doran (Bass) and Aidan Lynch (Keyboards and acoustic guitar). They performed one song described as Ska but claim they are not a Ska-Pop band (recent radio interview).
The Blizzards signed a recording contract in 2006 with Universal Music Ireland after their debut single First Girl To Leave Town went to No. 11 in the Irish charts; making it the biggest selling independent release in Ireland in 2005. In July 2005 the band played the New Bands Stage at Oxegen in front of 2,500 fans.
In 2006, the bands second single Trouble was released and went to No. 6 in the Irish charts. The single stayed in the Top 40 for seven weeks. In July the band returned to Oxegen, this time on the NME Stage in front of 10,000 fans.
The bands next single Miss Fantasia Preaches was released in August 2006, followed by an album in October.
The album, titled “A Public Display of Affection”, caused action in stores all over Ireland, and there is a high chance of them becoming very big, very soon. The album entered at No. 4 in the Irish album charts for the first week of its release.
The bands debut album ‘a puplic display of affection’ recently achieved platinum status in the bands native Ireland in April of 2007.
The band released their second album, The Domino Effect on 15 September 2008 to mostly positive reviews with entertainment.ie stating the album “does a concrete job in guiding the sextet through their new-found maturity”. The album peaked at #2 on the Irish Albums Chart, losing out to Metallica’s Death Magnetic. The lead single from the album, “Trust Me, I’m A Doctor” was released on 29 August 2008, going straight to the top of the download charts and debuted at #2 on the Irish Singles Chart, again just being beaten to the top spot, this time by the Katy Perry single “I Kissed a Girl”. “Trust Me, I’m A Doctor” remained in the Top Ten for four weeks before dropping down to #13 on 10 October.
|2) The Blizzards is 60’s garage beat band from Stade, Germany. Their music were pretty close to early Kinks and they had an astonishing potential of original songs. They also covered on a later single Het’s “Ik Heb Geen Zin Om Op Te Staan”.
They appeared during the 1962-69 German beat wave season. In the course of a STAR-CLUB-competition, Sigi E. Loch, promoter and producer of musical talents has discovered and helped them to acend to a most significant show career. As a German beat group, the band produced radio and television performances, performed as accompanying band (e.g. for Davy Jones, Tony Cavanaugh, Drafi Deutscher and Howard Carpendale) completed on tour performances and produced several singles as well as, one LP. In the special character of the band, creation of personal compositions is distinctive (for example, on the LP), with lyrics in German, the vocals in polyphonic harmony, by their rounded-up intonation oriented to the sound of the Beatles and the Hollies. They split in 1969. Since 1983 the re-organized Blizzards performed on tour (e.g. with Johnny and the Hurricanes from the USA) and in TV shows, but made no more recordings.
