The band’s inception can be traced back to early 2001 when “A” were writing ‘Hi-Fi Serious’ and Hundred Reasons were writing ‘Ideas Above Our Station’. “A” had a small studio in London where both bands were writing. When Dan wasn’t working on the “A” album and the studio was free, he would be in the studio demoing The Lucky Nine songs. At this point he didn’t know what was going to happen with the songs and considered singing on them himself. Fast-forward a year: Dan decided that he had to get these tracks recorded, so headed down to Decoy Productions in Brighton with Richie Mills from Cable / Sunna. Together they laid down the drums to nine songs in eight hours. After that he would head down to Brighton everytime he had a day off from touring “A” and lay down guitars, bass, and to work out programming. Dan sang on two of these recordings, but wasn’t please with the results. The decision was made, and Carter decided that the way forward was to ask a bunch of people who he respected and get them to sing. Neil Fallon, Darryl Palumbo, Ian Watkins, and Liam from thisGirl were all considered or asked. However, it was Colin who was the first and last to come down. Originally only going to sing on two songs, “Vessel & Vine” and “Jacques Molay is avenged!”, the session went so well it felt like it was meant to be and so Colin came on board as the singer for L9. The band played their first gigs in Decemeber 2003, going out on tour supporting Hell is for Heroes around the UK. In January 2004 the decision was made to re-record all the album, the tracks having taken on a new lease of life after being road-tested, and the record finally came out over a year later, hot on the tails of the self-titled EP. Hassle were also considering releasing “The Light from Passing Cars” as a digital single, but nothing came of this plan. By late 2006 their website had vanished - instead forwarding to their myspace page - last login mid 2008. The Lucky Nine had gone dark. In a 2005 interview with rockmidgets.com Dan Carter stated that ‘two thirds’ of a second album were already written and would be released at some point, however as of 2011 no new music has seen the light of day.
