The group has been recording and performing on the underground scene for over 15 years under the guise of different groups and entities until coming together as The Niyat in 2002. Many heads in Houston will recall the others groups as Psyko Ward, The Darkside, Epilfedis, Poetic Souls, and The Blade Runners. From open mic sessions and freestyle battles to live shows and a slew of classic and hard to find material, this ensemble represents some of the best to ever do what we affectionately call hip hop. These cats have been putting it down longer than some of your classic O.G. status type artists such as Scarface, Bun B, and others. Not to take any credit away from what the other folks do, but these boys deserve every bit of shine coming to em. For the love of the game I would say so indeed. Such props are long overdue and so highly underestimated but no doubt very muchappreciated. Stylistically if you dig Public Enemy, The Roots, Gangstarr, Nas, Talib Kweli, Immortal Technique and anything that is purely creative and original then you will be down for the home team. Lyrically there are 4 emcees to choose from with each bearing a unique trademark flow and topics ranging from Geopolitical urban commentary or destroying wack rappers with ease, it should keep your appetite whet for more. Sonically they go in over production from long time affiliates Mirawje and Wapp D. Often dark, disturbing, hardcore, sometimes melodic but always grungy with deep bottom bass lines to make you hold your stomach. The music perhaps is a reflection of the times that the artists are living in and experiencing. They have also collaborated on projects with fellow Houston native The Are.
