Plimp was born in 1999 when the unrelated Adam and Martin met in high school, attempted to form a Smiths tribute band but very quickly realised the songs were too difficult to replicate. Two weeks later they were peddling the newly invented Plimptons sound in the incredibly hard Motherwell pubs where most muso types would fear to tread, where shouts of “Gie’s a blast of Wonderwall, mate” were omnipresent. The fact the band remained un-murdered is testament to their quality. Since those carefree pre-millennial days, the band has expanded to absorb other like minded types from the artistic utopia that is The Glasgow Music Scene, enjoyed widespread local and national radio play, self-released two full length albums to excellent reviews (“a caustic feat of wit and guile” – The Metro, “raising their game to that of a Scottish Pulp” – The List) and gained a reputation as an unmissable live band. Their show fuses the energy of early punk with absurd theatrics not seen since the heyday of the Bonzo Dog Band or Alex Harvey, therefore it is not unusual for most of the band to end up in the audience - or most of the audience ending up onstage. The Plimptons have crafted their unique, impossibly catchy and boundlessly creative pop music away from the zeitgeist for the best part of a decade, gaining a loyal following in the process. In a music scene in which bands appear and disappear in a puff of hype within 6 months, they represent the true alternative - a fun alternative.
