After Thomas Erak’s band Tribune broke up near the end of high school, he and Mike Munro formed The Thirty Years War with Tim Ward and Andrew Forsman.
Under this name, they self-recorded and -released two EPs in 2002 - Martyrs Among the Casualties and Live at the Paradox. However, as they were going to begin recording again, Mike (who is older than the others in the band) left the band due to work commitments. The remaining band members went on under the name The Fall of Troy, where they are now.
Stylistically, The Thirty Years War is fairly similar to The Fall of Troy in that both bands feature unconventional song structuring, prog-rock-like guitar work, and dueling singing/screaming vocals. In fact, several songs by The Thirty Years War would later appear on The Fall of Troy releases. However, The Fall of Troy is, as the band readily admits, a more complex progression of the same sound.
Then in 2010 the band announced that they were finished making songs together. so they all ended up going their separate ways. Thomas went of and formed a new band called Just Like Vinyl. Andrew went off and started making some of his own music. Frank went a started a group called Chineke.
