Tina Karol (Ukrainian: Тіна Кароль, born on January 25, 1985) is a Ukrainian singer.
Born as Tetiana Liberman (Тетяна Григорівна Ліберман) to Ukrainian parents in Orotukan, Magadan Oblast, Russian Far East, Karol moved to Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine at the age of six. She graduated from a music school and a Kiev music institute. Karol has participated in numerous youth, regional, international and Jewish singing contests as well as musicals and theatrical shows. She reached second place at the Latvian festival “New Wave”. Karol became the soloist of the ensemble of the Ukrainian Armed Forces as well as a television personality.
In 2006 Karol won the Ukrainian preselection to the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 with the song “I Am Your Queen” and therefore represented Ukraine at the event finishing 7th scoring 145 points, with a reworked version of the song entitled “Show Me Your Love”.
Tina Karol is, perhaps, the only Ukrainian singer, who has managed to combine in herself seemingly incompatible things: Ukrainian army morale, peace-keeping, meteoric musical career and an ingenuous smile Tina finished music school where she mastered piano. And then was the legendary Kyiv State Glier Higher Music College. However, Tinas energetic nature brought her to aviation afterwards now she is the student of the Kyiv National Aviation University and at the same time the soloist of the Armed Forces Dance and Song Ensemble. In spite of her young age, the singer has already won more than 23 Grand Prix and First Prizes of various international contests and festivals. But Tina is not only just a pop singer she plays on stage of a professional theatre, performs leading parts in some modern European musicals. Moreover, taking into account her extremely intensive working schedule, Tina still has time to be the host of the musical TV show on one of the most popular Ukrainian TV channels this show is aimed to support talented children from poor families. Tina took part in 17 concerts of the charitable festival tour of the US cities: New-York, Philadelphia, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, and Milwaukee. And the year 2005 became the richest for the singer: participation in the Russian Charitable Ball in London, at the Royal residence: Grand Prix at the International contest of young pop artists “Novaya Volna. Tina also received a public recognition and was awarded the titles of Woman of the Year and Finding of the Year. And the main thing: the same year Tina Karol carried out two peacemaking missions in the hot spots of our planet Iraq and Kosovo. The singer visited international peace-making contingent in Baghdad and Al-Kut (Iraq) with her recitals, and not only Ukrainian soldiers applauded her, but also American, Georgian and British ones. And in Kosovo Ukrainian singer was invited to Paris by French peacemakers taken with her talent. For her performances in the hot spots, Ukrainian Minister of Defense decorated the singer with a state order for peacemaking missions. Tina opened the year 2006 with her debut album. TINA KAROL. THE BEGINNING. BIOGRAPHY. Tina Karol was born on the 25th of January 1985 in the far North of Russia in the town of Orotukan, Magadan region in the family of ethnic Ukrainians. Tinas parents were engineers. The day she was born it was very cold the temperature was about 50 degrees below zero! After Ukraine had gained its independence, Tinas family received a letter from Ukraine that told about significant changes in the country. And in 1992 they came back to Ukraine. Tinas parents explained their decision in a very simple way: Even before then we were very disappointed by the fact that our children had been deprived of usual wonders of the spring they had never seen gardens in blossom, clear and blue Ukrainian sky in May As you know, the summer is very short in Magadan and there is no spring at all. Almost always there is winter! When she was 12, Tina began practicing professional singing. Tinas managerial abilities or, as they say nowadays, producer skills came to light during the years of her study at the famous Kyiv State Glier Higher Music College. Young student independently created her own instrumental band, which was totally self-supporting! And during the fourth year of study Tinas singing abilities were appreciated at the state level her music college submitted an application for a government grant for the gifted student. Thus, during the years 2003-2004 Tina was the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) exhibitioner. And there is one more indicative fact from the students life of the future star: as we know, the process of studying at the musical school includes the so called academic concerts, where a student has to give the full-fledged performance for his or her teachers. Usually such concerts are not very lively, because professors prefer to evaluate such performances in silence, professionally, and reservedly. But Tinas student concerts attracted not only her friends but also those people, who heard about the gifted student and wanted to see her performance. In most cases, such Tinas performances ended in the rapturous applauses, which were a bit annoying for the teachers. They didnt consider such recognition acceptable during the “working auditions”. Almost all her way to the top the singer went on her own, relying only on her parents assistance, especially on her mums, who, in fact, was her first producer. And, of course, many different people helped her with all their hearts. Now Tina Karol, who felt all the weight of the way to recognition on her shoulders, has an opportunity to realize her precious dream - to make the project, which would be aimed at supporting talented children of the world. First of all those children who are truly gifted but have no wealthy parents and, accordingly, no possibility to improve there talents. Tina Karols press-cutting service KYIV. UKRAINE.

The official logo of the 2006 contest remained the same from 2004 and 2005 with the country’s flag in a heart-shaped form. However, the 2006 sub-logo was based on the Phaistos Disc, which is a popular symbol of ancient Greece. According to ERT, it was “inspired by the wind and the sea, the golden sunlight and the glow of the sand.” Following Istanbul’s Under The Same Sky and Kyi’s Awakening, the motto for the 2006 show was Feel The Rhythm. This theme was also the basis for the postcards for the 2006 show, which emphasized Greece’s historical significance as well as being a modern tourist destination.
23 countries took part in the Semi-Final, covering all musical ranges: from Finnish hard-rock to Albanian ethnic sounds, via Swedish schlager. Contrary to the 2005 Semi-Final, most experts and fans agreed on the songs that went on to the Final, with the only exception being the shocking exit of Belgian star Kate Ryan, who had had a handful of European smash hits before.
Iceland’s diva character Silvia Night had all the cameras zooming in her direction due to her extravagant behaviour, but didn’t qualify either. In interviews, she referred to the Finnish participants as “stars without a real make-up artist” and she accused the Swedish participant of poisoning her. People of the host country certainly did not welcome her rather rude comments about Greeks in general, and she was welcomed on stage with loud boo-ing from the audience.
The lucky 10 that qualified for the final were: Finland, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Russia, Sweden, Lithuania, Armenia, Ukraine, Turkey, Ireland and FYM Macedonia. |
