There are two bands with the name Trace The Skyline.
1.) A pop punk band from Chicago Illinois that started in 2006, and disbanded in 2008. They were known in the Chicagoland area for their high-energy live shows, relentless stage banter, and rather unique guitar sounds from both guitarists.
The band was formed in 2006 by Kyle Guilford (previously of Chicago punk bands Alpha, and Caulkin) and Dain Drake, who had just moved to the Chicagoland area, from California. The two began writing, and eventually through mutual friends met drummer Stephen Froula, and bassist Jeff Naumann (both previously of Navy and Syn). The four kept writing, and in fall of 2006, recorded the self titled EP/Single. The band also began playing an onslaught of Chicago area shows, in which they soon became well noted for. In the summer of 2007, keyboardist Max Schif joined the band, and soon the 5 members went into the studio to record the follow-up to the bands self-titled effort. While in the studio, the band continued playing many live shows, eventually becoming one of the primary underground artists in the Chicago live scene.
Unfortunetly, After the recordings were just about to be mastered for the new album, tensions between band members grew high, and ultimately the album was never released to the general public, making it extremely rare. In winter 2008, keyboardist Max Schif made the decision to leave the band to pursue his own ventures in music. Shortly after, bass player Jeff Naumann was voted out of the band, unknowingly. Soon after, longtime friend, Rob Poznanski was asked to join on bass. Throughout the winter, the four had been working on new material, and in March 2008, decided to enter the studio, in an effort to produce a new album. Unfortunetly, once again, tensions grew high between band members while recording. Rob had been voted out of the band, and soon after, Kyle had also been voted out.
The studio time was still used by guitarist Dain Drake, and Stephen Froula (as well as friend Nick Tazelaar, previously of punk-band Midaway) to produce an EP under the name and title “A Touch Dramatic”, which can be heard here: http://www.myspace.com/atouchdramatic . Both songs were written together by all of the original members. Soon after, drummer Stephen Froula left the band, feeling that the band’s importance had diminished due to the lack of original members, whom he remained good friends with. Stephen also left to join Chicago Metalcore outfit; Catastrophe Beneath the Heavens. Guitarist Dain Drake, and friend Nick Tazelaar then decided to try and continue the band under the name “A Touch Dramatic”, featuring new members. The group soon after disbanded.
Trace The Skyline is remembered today by many fans as a fun-loving, extremely entertaining, and nostalgic band of the once lively Chicago local music scene.
