In 1996 they entered a national talent contest, “PEPSI Young Challenge The Discovery” and became the 1st Runner-Up. Despite approaches by a few recording companies the boys decided to concentrate on their studies. In 1998, V.E signed up with an Indie label (N.I.B Production) and contributed in the compilation album tittled “Ilham Volume 1″. After the release of the compilation album, V.E. welcomed another member, Cham. Following the completion of their contract with N.I.B Production, V.E. decided that the time has come for them to choose their own destiny. Along the years V.E. has been featured in numerous albums for Malaysian giant acts like Too Phat (Plan B Album) and Innuendo (Brandnuendo.) In September 2002, V.E together with another vocal group released a jointly collaboration album called “Extreme Pleasure” and followed by “Extreme Pleasure Extra” a few months later. Besides singing, V.E. also contributed their producing and composition skills together with other producers for their own songs in the album. “Ayu”, a favourite number, has reached the top of the charts in all major Radio stations within weeks of the release. A video clip of the song “Ayu” was released following the launch of the album. At the “Anugerah Industri Muzik 2003″, V.E was nominated as one of the “Most Promising Artist”. On that night, V.E. received standing ovation for “Ayu” and up to this day, “Ayu” still has a soft spot in everybody’s heart. During the same year VE expanded the group adding the fifth member Damian “Shortysoul”. A versatile mid tenor, Damian has been in the Malaysian music industry for quite a while and a well-known producer, arranger who has contributed to the success of Too Phat’s hit song “Anak Ayam”. In early 2004, V.E. released it’s own independant single “Party Like This” that danced into the charts being no. 1 for almost half the year and continued being in the charts until the following year in all major radio stations and cruised it’s way to the semi-final in TV3’s “Muzik-muzik” charts. Noticing their exquisite talents, V.E. clenched a recording deal with EMI Music Malaysia. By the time the quintet released “FOR YOU” in December of 2004, they were already a known name in the new era of R&B music. Their magnificent vocals provided a welcome of various genre of music and their looks and smooth ways made them instant teen idols. Magazines outdid themselves trying to come up with ways to categorize the five singers, and the results were pretty amusing: Damian was generally portrayed as the hyperactive one; Cham, the funny one and Shah became known as the Bass Man of his generation. The long awaited debut album features 14 tracks, 11 of which are songs. The rest are intro and interlude. If the song, “Party Like This” (that goes ooh-ooh-ooh), is your favorite, then, rest-assured, the whole album will blow your mind away. “FOR YOU” instantly became the no. 1 awaited R&B album in early 2005.Produced by the group themselves and music arrangements by Damian “Shortysoul” and famous composer Adnan Abu Hassan has given the album personal touch thus giving listeners purely what VE is all about. “FOR YOU” also had support from The Founder of Indie Label “POSITIVE TONE” and currently the C.E.O. of 8TV, Mr. Ahmad “The Man” Izham Omar (Piano on Baby) and one of Malaysia’s renown song writer/arranger/composer, Mr. Adnan Abu Hassan (arrangement for Detik Bersama) and one of countries top studio engineer, Illegal (who engineered and mix the entire album and also contributed an arrangement for Feel Good) before being handed over for the final touch by C.L Toh of Masterting One.|The first single from the album, “Message Girl” featuring MC Syze spent more than 5 weeks at No. 1 and followed by the second single, “Pop Ye!Ye!” a 60’s era collaboration with Joe Flizzow of Too Phat and Daly of Ahli Fiqir, instantly followed the success of “Message Girl” where it camped out for 6 weeks. “Pop Ye! Ye!” also maintained it’s standing on the Top 10 Charts for more the 25 weeks in many major radio stations and also booked it’s way to the semi-finals of TV3’s “Muzik-muzik” chart program. Once again, the guys were breaking the charts, charting two songs back-to-back in the No. 1 slot puts V.E. in a very small and selected company of artists who have accomplished the same feat. In October 2005, “BEST ENGLISH ARTIST” was awarded during ANUGERAH ERA, making V.E. the second artist after to Too Phat to win this category in this prestigious entertainment award in the country. Early 2006, Pop Ye Ye has been in the finals for RTM’s “Hits 1″ (Auditorium RTM) and TV3’s “Juara Lagu” Contest (PWTC). In late February, V.E has been nominated for “Best Duo/Group” for “Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian (ABBPH)” taken place in The Arena of Stars in Genting Highlands. At the same time, V.E. released their repackaged album for everyone out there as gratitude in returning all the undying support and love for V.E. In this album some creative and thoughtful experimental elements are fused with their trademarked style and sound we all know. V.E. has grown musically over the years and this repackaged album is just a step, too much more. In March 2006, V.E. has been invited to perform as an opening act for the A.P.M (Anugerah Planet Muzik), jointly by 3 Nusantara countries (Malaysia, Indonesia & Singapore). V.E. was nominated in the “Best Popular Group”. In April 2006, V.E. received a prestige award from A.I.M (Anugerah Industri Muzik) for “Best Group Vocal Performance” and at the same time being nominated in the “Best English Album” categories. During the A.I.M show, V.E. was given the honor to be the opening act for the night.|And the journey continues… |
