On October 10, 2006 Zion I and The Grouch released “Heroes in the City of Dope”. This album was a long awaited collaboration of two of the bay’s finest artists. Heroes in the City of Dope refers to Oakland and a spin on some wisdom spoken by Too Short on his 1989 album Life is Too $hort …”A lot of beauty and hope has come out of all the struggle here.” and as Zion puts it “We all share a strong connection with Oakland.”|The album is produced mainly by Amplive of Zion I with Headnodic lending a hand with two tracks. One Track was also produced by The Grouch, and one by fellow Living Legend alumni, Eligh.|Amplive’s amazing instrumentals set you down a path for the best experience you have been on since the last summer in the back of a VW van. The album boasts an array of different styles, from politically consciouses lyrics to banging hyphy tracks. Amplive’s versatile production takes us on this incredible journey through these Bay Area philosphies for life. Great minds think alike, and the message is to rise above.
