Pip Brown (born c 1979), better known by his stage name Ladyhawke is a solo singer-songwriter plays all the instruments in the studio and touring with a band since 2005, she was formerly a part of the Wellington New Zealand band Two Lane Blacktop and the Sydney duo teenager with Nick Littlemore by Pnau Ladyhawke named himself after the Rutger Hauer movie Ladyhawke Ladyhawke is best known for the 2008 single "Paris Is Burning" which she wrote after a visit to Paris, her debut album, released on Modular in September 2008
Born with Asperger syndrome Pip was a music obsessed child with very musical parents (step-father a drummer mother singer), she soaked up everything from the 70's and 80's from Stevie Nicks and Joan Jett to Nirvana and Hole with Van Halen and Deep Purple the result is en refreshing blend of rock and classical dance song writing and writing Back of the Van Pip also plays drums, guitar and synth on the track
For this mix package the original producer of the track gets involved once again for Van She Tech Turbo Fire Engine Mix ... a pleasant half-time intro builds to a thumping thrilling ride through thundering bass and pumped up synth lines! Fred Falke is experiencing rapid growth right now with their excellent EP on Work It Baby and a new edition of amazing remixes ... this is no exception when he takes Ladyhawke into glam disco dance floor and let the song do the rest ... very classy! Finally, the London-based faves of DFA Mock & Toof deliver an elastic festive fun riding on the original Bass Line, and then run amok in dunkandeavdeltion
The first real single Paris Is Burning to be released on Modular Records in June and will be available on CD 7 "and download, followed by the self-titled debut album, 22 September ______________
BIO - or Life Story Take yer pick
Uh, so I do not really know what to write here ... Bios always seem blaga about life that makes it sound really cool and lists all the really cool shit you've done Kinda like patting yourself on the back of all the "notable" things you have achieved in your life so far Well Im not to start clapping It is what it really My list may not be full of parents, celebrity scandal, and several young offense, but honestly I'm from New Zealand I has been playing music in a förrm or another since I was11 years 11 Why do you ask? My stepfather is an American drummer and my mother a singer, so I was introduced to music very young 11 but was the same age when I saw my step-dad play drums, he gave a demonstration for my class kids were in awe From this moment my whiney voice was mums ear 24 / 7 BEGGING her to let me play She was turned Drums The higher the better as I am concerned, My neighbors were not stoked How to around 14, I got frustrated with only playing drums and taught me bass guitar and synth Again, neighbors are not stoked In a moment of complete desperate effort to beat more stuff I went to our towns Brass Band as percussionist My step-father was a bandleader and my sisters werescattered in various other instruments Not very cool I know but I did not give a shit In my eyes there was some serious fun! Hitting things and go on trips to turn things in other cities - it's not fun about it? I used to wear a uniform which was like 5 sizes too big for me It was the smallest they had I found it completely new to play in a band where the majority of the members were 50 to 60 years older than me Some looked like they would keel over every time we finished a song I digress When I turned 16 I wanted to start my own band again stronger the better - is in tune not even question So I recorded a couple of heavy grunge band at school I turned 18 left school and moved to Wellington This begins a prayättelse on rockdom brokedom dingy bars and smelly boys Me and my friend started enbandet Two Lane Blacktop It was like Iggy and The Stooges meets The Clash I played guitar and was the only girl We have lots of touring and stuff got us a quite the following in New Zealand I spent much time in the back of a clapped out old van called cherry with 4 smelly boys Getting sick Sleeping on couches and floors Driving Through the Night We played in Australia, which also requires lots of hours to run in a shit van - only change the cool New Zealand Bush country with 40 degrees dusty Australian desert We also drove past a big bush fire again Those days were fun We managed to make it over to the States for some shows I faktProprietary to say that I have played CBGB's I stood and played on the same stage Deborah Harry Joey Ramone and many others adore my harspelade Line Aside from New York, which we also played in Los Angeles, it was lots of fun On the way back to NZ, we began with personal conflicts in the band A big tour was booked for Australia with a band called the Modey Lemon We were then fly on to South By Southwest as we could play on Literally two days before our flight to Australia, our singer decided to leave band Our drummer followed I was left devastated bitter and angry So in a fit of impulsive spontaneity I thought "fuck it Im getting on that damn plane with or without my band 'and I did No moneyjust my suitcase, a guitar and three empty seats beside me I came to Melbourne I was homeless and penniless band-less A guy in Sydney called Nick Littlemore had just started a band called Teenager He got wind of my move to Melbourne and asked if I wanted to join the band as a guitarist I liked the music so started playing with him We played together for a couple of years I moved to Sydney to be closer to all the people I write music Ladyhawke slowly started to take over my life and my head throughout my time was consumed by the Nick continued Teenager as an ongoing personal project for him I started Ladyhawke from a desire to do my own project where I could completely express myself in every way I ville without having to answer the band members! I wanted to make music that could put a smile on people's faces and give them a sense of nostalgia, even if they can hear my songs for the first time I love how music provokes memories of a time I wanted to see if I could find a method of songwriting that would elicit these feelings from me to write the song and then the individual when listening to it for the first time I draw heavily on many many influences you can definitely say I wear them on his sleeve, but what I have tried do is really re-create the same atmosphere that so many amazing records of the 70's and 80's produced Vintage Synths have been used, I wanted to keep simple hooky guitar riffs throughout the tracks, but sometimesplace with a solo every now and then (my self indulgent moments ha!) I wanted to capture the "happy sad" vibe that so many eighties classics had music that came out of the eighties had such a unique and definitive sound Big big synths and production great guitar riffs The songwriters were incredibly significant, and the whole musical era left an everlasting impression on me I feel however that the vast amount of influences I draw from mesh nicely with my "modern" upbringing I'm not just influenced by music from a bygone era, I also draw hugely from pop-culture, not just musical pop culture, but in the arts media television movies all who bombarded my senses growing up and to this day which includes modern music makers band and now produces inspires me I want to believethat my obsession with the musical heroes of the seventies and eighties has blended with my exposure to music at a later date to create a whole new interesting and relevant audio Me and Ladyhawke are two sides of same coin She is an incredibly important part of my personality The hand-over all the other songwriters I only ever wanted to create something that aroused emotions I hope that Ladyhawke does We were all once teenagers listening to music at full volume jump in bed with the door closed
