In 2008, Cole became a judge on the British reality television show The X Factor, where she mentored Alexandra Burke who won the series. In 2009, Cheryl mentored the boys category, where her protegé, Joe McElderry also went on to win. During the X Factor 2009 season, she launched her solo career, with a performance on the show. Cole’s first solo single, Fight For This Love, was the fastest-selling single of 2009 when it entered the UK Singles Chart and Irish Singles Chart at number one. Her début solo album 3 Words achieved similar success, now certified as twice platinum in sales. In December 2009, she featured on Cheryl Cole’s Night In on ITV1, where she performed with will.i.am and invited her own favourite current artists to perform on the programme. Fight For This Love debuted at #1.|3 Words peaked at #4|Parachute will be released in 2010. Cheryl Cole has become recognized as a style icon, appearing on the cover of British Vogue and Elle.
