Churrus was born in 2004 in Belo Horizonte MG, Brazil. The band was founded by Tulio Panzera recording his songs during 2003. Bruno Orsini and Luiz Flavio Neves joined into the project when the songs “Wormholes” and “My school” were composed and recorded at Orsini’s home studio. In the end of 2003, Panzera launched a demo album titled as “Piano”.
Later, Matheus Lopes (Guitar), Branco (Bass), Fabrício (Drums) and Júlia (Keyboards) joined the band for the first gig. After that, a lot of changes in the band formation happened. During the year of 2005 Panzera moved to England, new musicians joined the band, Fred Dutton, Rich and Simon Watkins when “Drag me away” was composed.
Back to Brazil in the middle of 2006, Panzera gathered his friends, Matheus Lopes, Bruno Martinho, David Mol and Bruno Orsini, to record the first Churrus’s album, “The Greatest Day”, which was released in August 2007.
In July 2008, after “Drag me away” has been used on TV adverts in the UK, Panzera was finally invited to launch “The greatest day” in Great Britain, when he has opened for bands such as Doves, Charlatans, Belle and Sabastian and Magic Number.
The next EP is coming soon, produced by Jeff Tweedy and recorded at Panzera’s new home studio somewhere in Surrey.
Churrus brings a strong influence in British indie rock and American low-fi, such as Teenage Fanclub, Wilco, Pernice Brothers, Beulah, Guided by Voices and Jesus and Mary Chain.|
