Den Gale Pose (abbreviated DGP) was a Danish rap/hip hop group that began in the late 1980s and got much success in the 1990s. The group consisted primarily of Jesper Dahl (Jokeren), Nicholas Kvaran (Coldhands) and Rasmus Berg (B). In 1986 the group Madness 4 Real is formed in Hillerød, Denmark. The members are 12 to 14 years old and in a short while find their musical style in hip hop. By the end of the 80s the group consists of Jokeren, B, Coldhands og Blæs Bukki (Lasse Baungård). Hip hop was underground in Hillerød and therefore they decided to pick up and move to Copenhagen. They peform at different venues, often at Klub 47 on Amager. Here, they got signed by manager Carsten Willer. During the years 1992-1996 the group was in Los Angeles where they worked as freelance producers for Solid Productions. Madness 4 Real has produced for such names as Eazy E, MC Ren, Rakim, Ice Cube, MC Clemens and Outlandish. They managed to have 33 tracks and 4 remixes released during their stay in the United States, where many of the records reached American gold (.5 million copies) and platinum (1 million copies). In 1995 Blæs Boogie decides to leave the group to seek other artistic challenges and he becomes a member of the Danish hip hop group Malk De Koijn who are close friends to Den Gale Pose. Although they are successful beyond their imagination they come across financial trouble. They decide to return home to Denmark where they form the hip hop record label 5 Svin Records. In 1996 they release the EP “Flere Ho’s” and the album “Mod Rov” as the group Den Gale Pose which is identical with Madness 4 Real. The company thrives but the guys are still the dark horse - the outsiders from the underground. Two years later Den Gale Pose gets signed by Warner Music Denmark and release the album “Sådan er Reglerne”. The album gives them their breakthrough in Danish music. The first single “Spændt op til Lir” goes platinum (12,000 copies) and is a major hit on the Danish radio stations. The album “Sådan er Reglerne” is sold in 38,000 copies and they re-release their first album. The album “Sådan er Reglerne” and the single “Spændt op til Lir” earns them 4 Danish Grammys in 1999 and critical accailm from the Danish music magazines Gaffa and Mix. After a year of silence Den Gale Pose returns to the music scene in 2001 with their fourth album “Definitionen af en Stodder” and show that the hip hop genre is here to stay in the Danish music scene. In 2003 Jokeren releases the album “Alpha Han” and pursues a solo carreer. Two years later Den Gale Pose release a compilation album of their greatest hits called “Lir & Leftovers”. |
