Fresno is also the name of a city in California, the name of a tree, and the name of a river. (and that was the motive for the name of the second cd, O Rio, A Cidade, A Árvore., which means exactly “The River, The City and The Tree”) Friends since high school, Lucas Silveira (lead singer and guitar), Gustavo Mantovani (guitar), Bruno Teixera (bass) and Pedro Cupertino (Drums) started to have their songs noticed through the Internet. Orginally, they recorded songs with only a guitar and vocals into a computar mic and released the songs on the Internet for anyone to download. In 2001, FRESNO released released their first EP, “O Acaso Do Erro”. In 2003, the band recorded their first CD independently. “Quarto dos Livros” had success with the music PlayTeu Semblante, Carpe Diem and PlayStonehenge.|Then, in 2004, their second album was released, and it was called “O Rio, A Cidade, A Árvore”. This album featured the song PlayOnde Está, the band’s major hit that is usually the final song played at their shows. It was also with this song that the band became known as one of the biggest bands in the brazilian independent scene. Already making shows all around the country, in 2006 the band recorded their third record, “Ciano”. Still independents, their first single Playquebre as correntes was widely played on radios, as well as staying on the MTV Brazil top ten (Disk MTV) for weeks. This CD contained re-recordings of three songs from the first CD. (PlayTeu Semblante, PlayStonehenge and PlaySono Profundo). In October 2006, Lezo (Bruno Teixeira - bass player) leaft the band in order to go to Law school, and Rodrigo Tavares (who produced the second album) replaced him. Nowadays, the band is with the single Playalguém que te faz sorrir playing on MTV and on some radio stations, but they still remain an independent band. |
