Jeb Cook drew first blood in the mid 90’s Boston Hardcore scene. When most teens were sporting flannels in homage to their fallen deity Kurt Cobain, Jeb was pounding pavement sharing the stage with Killswitch Engage and Shadows Fall predecessors Overcast and Blood Has Been Shed. Eventually escaping with a full set of teeth and his guitar, Jeb landed in Colorado and under the tutelage of six-string great Jamie Mclean (The Dirty Dozen Brass Band). Compelled to branch from his rowdy musical roots, Jeb versed himself in a variety of genres such as Jazz, Delta Blues, Electronica and Funk while based in the Centennial State. Leaving soil and pines behind for palm and concrete, Jeb set up in Los Angeles in 2002. He balanced his time learning recording from mentor Christopher Currell, best known for his work on Michael Jackson’s Bad album, while also crafting songs for his Hollywood headlining act, One Winter Left. He cut teeth in the L.A. rock scene with this band, maturing his sound to the earnest, neo-alternative rock that is the spine of Jeb’s current solo debut. In reverence to his now defunct band, Jeb entitled this album One Winter Left. Jeb met Peter Distefano (Porno for Pyros) while in search of a new mentor. Three guitar lessons later the relationship progressed from teacher/student into a business partnership when Peter offered to co-produce a solo album for Jeb. Tracks for One Winter Left were laid at Glenwood Place Studios with Jeb’s producing partner Brendan Dekora, who also engineered, mixed and mastered the album. Brendan brings a vault of experience to the table having worked with many notable acts including Alicia Keys, Sheryl Crow and Jakob Dylan among others. Jeb pulls no punches with One Winter Left, adroitly juxtaposing driving, aggressive alternative rock with electronic and non-instrumental undertones. Deep affliction and vulnerability unfold as melodies fluctuate from hauntingly moody to brass-knuckled and ferocious. Transcending Alternative, Jeb constructs an accessible and authentic sound already alluring notable interest. Marc Clebanoff makes use of the track, “Letter to a Grave,” in the end credits of his upcoming feature, Break, starring Michael Madsen. The track, “Extort Wisdom,” is used in Leif Lillehaugen’s critically acclaimed short, War of Words. Jeb also has an endorsement deal with Line 6 Guitars. |
