Lunic is an all-girl indie/new wave band consisting of songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Kaitee Page, violinist/violist Megan Berson, and drummer Lisa Wilson. They play a blend of dark ethereal synth pop and dancy electronic anthems that seem to land them somewhere in time between popular 80’s bands, New Order, Depeche Mode, or psychadelic furs, and modern-day indie bands like Metric, The xx or The Kills. Although Lunic is, no doubt, easy on the eyes, it’s not just the all-girl factor that sets this talented trio apart from other bands. Page’s award-winning songwriting is poetic, intelligent, and visual all at once. Laced with lyrical depth and addictive hooks, Lunic songs have been recognized in songwriting competitions around the world. Instead of arranging the songs with typical instrumentation, the band uses their own unique combination of virtual instruments, pedals, & midi controllers to carefully concoct the sounds for each song. Although Lunic has been around since 2008 having toured the US & UK and released an album + an EP, the trio reinvented themselves in 2011 when they shifted to a new genre and downsized to a 3-piece lineup. “We decided it was time to do everything ourselves,” says Page. Having dabbled in different genres ranging from acoustic to alternative to indie rock, Lunic finally found their home in the electro-pop genre. “We knew that in order to get the sound we wanted, we’d have to learn to produce & engineer and play or program all the instruments ourselves so that we could accurately create the parts we heard in our heads.” And that’s exactly what they did. Both being classically trained violinists, it didn’t take long for Page and Berson to master enough skills on various instruments, gadgets, electronic software, & computer programs to create their second full-length album, Cool Kids, coming 2012. “We’re really proud of this album because it’s homemade,” says Berson. “We took a lot of risks by doing it all ourselves, but that’s what gives it character.” Lunic released their debut album Lovethief in May 2009 which was funded completely by Lunic fans around the world via crowd-sourcing website,Sellaband.com. They’ve shared the stage with artists such as Moby, Company of Thieves, Dredg, Meiko, Bell X1. The band is currently based in New York City. Lunic released an EP called Splinter independently in the US & the UK in June 2008. A collection of 10 demo songs from 2006/2007 was released digitally in October 2008. The album is called Skeletons due to the fact that the recordings remain unfinished. | |
