MFO (Mazhar Fuat Ozkan), is a Turkish pop band established in 1970. They represented Turkey in the Eurovision Song Contest twice; in 1985 in Gothenburg, Sweden they came 14th with “Didai Didai Dai”, and in 1988 in Dublin, Ireland, performing the song “Sufi” to finish in 15th place. Group’s name was originally “Mazhar-Fuat-Ozkan” for 15 years, but during Eurovision’85, speaker had difficulty to anounce their names, so their names shortened as “M.F.O.” by Eurovision speaker in 1985, and remained the same afterwards.
MFO is the most famous trio of modern Turkish music history and inspired a few generations back to back from 1980’s till today. In the mids of 1990’s group members also published solo albums for themselves. They individually acted in movies and tv series long time. They created their original style, and trio vocal balance. Today they still play in charity concerts and regional events, and still one of the most respected groups in Turkey.
They have been performing for more than thirty years and were among the first rock n’ roll band in Turkey (or at least when they became popular). A lot of people compare them in importance to the Beatles.
MFO have written the lyrics and compositions for ALL their albums, which exhibit an initiative trend throughout. During their productive career, they produced more than 100 compositions and received many rewards.
The first hit the MFÖ produced was “Ele Güne Karşı” in 1984. The song was chosen as the “Song of the year” after its release with in the same year. “Peki Peki Anladık” (1985), “Vak The Rock” (1986), “No Problem” (1987), “Best of MFÖ” (1989), “Geldiler” (1990), , “Agannaga” and “Dönmem Yolundan (1992) and Rock oriented “M.V.A.B” (1995) followed.
After 1995, the band began its solo work. Together with Cem Yılmaz (famous comedian), Mazhar Alanson took part in a movie titled, “Herşey Çok Güzel Olucak”. Alanson’s solo album was on market in year 2002. Meanwhile Fuat Güner produced his first solo album in April 1999, and Özkan Uğur took part in various cinema, TV and theatre productions. In spite of this they never performed alone, or with someone else, they perform always together. Apart their solo business, their new arranged collection album will be presented to their funs in early March 2003 and around the end of year 2003 a new album is on the way. Meanwhile the band continues to work together in all productions, domestic and foreign concert tours and appears in engagements for audiences.
