… says the young Californian who has been living in Hamburg, Germany for a bit over 3 years now. After leaving the U.S. as a “political refugee” when George W. Bush was re-elected in 2005, Shaolyn (otherwise known as Lynne Welton) came to the birthplace of hard electronic music: Germany. “I chose to learn German in school, when everyone else learned Spanish and I have always loved bands like DAF. I have also always been politically active in California, so when Bush got re-elected I could not bear to live in that country anymore. So I literally left everything behind and came to Hamburg with nothing but 2 suitcases. At first it was very, very hard, because I had nowhere to stay and no job, but I coped and made it - and now I can’t imagine living anywhere else!” Shaolyn successfully blends hard EBM basslines with techno, hardstyle and a sprinkle of powernoise to create a unique mix that is clearly a step ahead of the female-fronted electro competition. “I love dancing and that’s why I make music that you can dance to. If it’s bouncy and powerful, nothing will keep me from getting onto the dancefloor - and my tunes are a reflection of that spirit …” says the young woman with a smirk. Shaolyn really kicks the dancefloor’s ass!|Shaolyn Releases 2008 - “Mono Man (Shaolyn Aggrotech Remix)” on Faderhead - FH2.1 (Accession Records)|2008 - “Face Down” (L-Tracks)|2010 - “Pussy Rules (Feat.Shaolyn)” on Faderhead - Black Friday (L-Tracks)|2010 - “More Bass In All Frequencies” on Endzeit Bunkertracks Act V (Alfa Matrix) |
